Hotel Lenhart renovations include Eco-Loop air conditioning system

BEMUS POINT -- As the major renovations continue on Bemus Point's historic Hotel Lenhart, one such renovation includes a custom "eco-loop" system for air conditioning.
According to a recent Facebook post, the Hotel Lenhart is set to have a system that will bring "modern comfort to our historic landmark without installing bulky, noisy AC units that would ruin the peaceful lakeside breeze."
The Hotel Lenhart has existed on the shores of Chautauqua Lake since 1882. The Curry family bought the building last year, and have since been working on renovating it, and through that are including a cutting-edge, eco-friendly system that they designed that will be "a first for Chautauqua County." The system was explained in a recent Facebook post.
"Here is how our custom "eco-loop" works: 1. Ice Batteries: At night, we use clean, off-peak electricity to freeze water into ice," the post reads. "During hot summer days, we melt that ice to quietly air-condition the hotel, taking the burden off the local power grid. 2. Slinky Ground Loops: We've paired this with a horizontal geothermal loop to naturally balance our heating and cooling. 3. Free Recycled Heat: We trap the intense waste heat from our ice compressors and recycle it to warm up our pool and preheat the fresh domestic water coming from our new deep wells."
All of this means there will be no noisy rooftop boxes, or burning fossil fuels for hot water, the post continues, "just a 144-year-old landmark tracking LEED Gold certification and cutting our carbon footprint by up to 80%."
"We are proving that historic preservation and green technology can seamlessly coexist," the post reads. "Stay tuned for more updates as we bring the future of heritage travel to the shores of Chautauqua Lake."
The Curry family has also told the Post-Journal that they have officially filed for the building permit as of last Friday, August 28, and are excited for the next steps. A food drive is also set to be held at the Hotel Lenhart this Labor Day weekend. The Hotel Lenhart's Second Annual Labor Day Food Drive, supporting St. Susan Center in Jamestown and the Bemus Point Methodist Church is set for Saturday, September 5 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Sunday, September 6 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., just before the final Movie in the Park. Everyone is invited to come visit Hotel Lenhart, 20 Lakeside Drive, and support these organizations through this food drive.
