WESTFIELD -- The Patterson Library, located at 40 S. Portage St., has announced a full schedule of free events and programs for October.
The library will offer activities for adults, teens, tweens, children and families throughout the month. Registration is not required for most programs, although some events require advance sign-up.
For adults, the Chautauqua County Historical Society Fireside Lecture Series will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, with "The History of Fredonia Academy," presented by Max Walters of the Barker Museum.
Other adult activities include Culinary Creations at noon Monday, Oct. 5, and a basket-weaving class with Joann Negro from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6. Both classes are free, and supplies will be provided. Participants should RSVP to coordinator Nancy Nixon Ensign at 716-326-2154.
The library will also host an Ekstasis 2.0 concert at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15. Monthly book clubs, including Book Chat, Best Sellers, Book Talk and Mystery Book Club, will continue throughout the month. Patrons are encouraged to call the library to confirm meeting dates.
Cozy Crafters meets every Tuesday from 1 to 3 p.m. Participants may bring any handicraft to work on, and registration is not required.
Art exhibits and discussions will also be featured. The Octagon Gallery will display VANM's works with or on paper through Oct. 30. The 13 Walls exhibit "Faces of Ukraine," by Patrick Stokes, will remain on display through Oct. 16. A reception for artist Myriam Mayshark is scheduled for 4 to 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23. On Thursday, Oct. 22, David Seehausen will present "Outsider Art in the South" at 5:30 p.m. The Octagon Gallery will host a panel discussion, "Art in the Age of AI," at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27.
Children and families will have several opportunities to participate in library activities. A showing of "Harry Potter & the Sorcerer's Stone" is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 23, at 10:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. A Harry Potter-themed Halloween party will be held Saturday, Oct. 24, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Costumes are encouraged.
Regular youth programs include ZOOM Room toddler playtime on Thursdays at 10:15 a.m. for children ages 0 to 3, Giggle & Grow Storytime on Fridays at 10:30 a.m. for ages 3 to 5, and LEGO Club on Saturdays from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Teens and tweens can participate in DnD Teens and MTG the Club on select Saturdays. The Teen & Tween Advisory Board will meet Thursday, Oct. 8, at 4 p.m. to help plan library programs. A teen and tween pumpkin-carving event is scheduled for Oct. 29 at 4 p.m., with sign-up required.
The Patterson Library will be closed Monday, Oct. 19, for staff development. Regular hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Tuesday and Thursday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The library is closed Sundays.
