RIPLEY — At their meeting last month, Town of Ripley Council members approved a resolution for the benefit of the New York State Department of Transportation in connection with work affecting state highways.
The resolution, NYS DOT Perm 1 Undertaking Work in Right-of-Way, notes that municipalities often receive permits from the state DOT to conduct operations on state highways “for such purposes as the obstruction, installation, construction, maintenance and/or operation of facilities.”
By approving the resolution, municipalities agree to several terms and conditions which are set by the state DOT. Unless it is revoked by the municipality or rejected by the DOT, the agreement will have a term of 20 years and must be kept on file to facilitate the issuance of all future permits.
Council members also approved a resolution to reduce water/sewer demand units from 1 to 0 for a property in the Town of Ripley. It was noted that the water/sewer superintendent has inspected the property for certification. The resolution also instructs that the billing should be appropriately modified.
There are several reasons why municipalities reduce water/sewer units from 1 to 0, including that the building is vacant or the property's water consumption is so low that it falls below the minimum unit threshold.
In a related matter, council members approved a 50-cent per hour increase to Scott Carnahan’s current hourly rate. This will take effect upon completion of Carnahan’s six-month review.
In other business, council members approved mileage reimbursement for the dog control officer when performing official Town of Ripley duties as the animal control officer.
During the period of Privilege of the Floor Ripley resident Mike Pinzok asked the highway superintendent to fix the shoulder of the road by his home.
