2 min read

September is a busy month for Veterans 4 Christ. First, there is brunch then, there is a walk in nature, searching for and learning about mushrooms.

Coffee and conversation happen on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month at 9 W. Main St., Brocton. Lastly, there is a chicken BBQ. All of these events happen within the next couple of weeks.

This Saturday is the monthly breakfast bunch. There will be plenty of food and plenty of Paula Donuts. The coffee is hot and the pot is always on. The day begins at 10 and goes until about 11:30 a.m. Saturday’s speaker is Paul Fardink. He will be speaking on military aviation. This event is free for veterans, active-military personnel and their plus one. The event is held at Tri-Church Parish in Brocton. The facility is handicap accessible and climate controlled. For more information, please contact Wes Tessey at 716-640-9883.

This same afternoon from 2 to 5 pm, there is a mushroom walk at Zaepfel Nature Center, 104 Wyeth Drive, Little Valley. We will be shuttling from this location to another location so please arrive early. You should park at the yellow barn with GPS coordinates, 42.204420, -78.892015. You will discover different kinds of mushrooms and if they are edible and then learn how to prepare them if they are. Please contact Bernie Tessey at 716-969-0201 for more information. This event is free for veterans and their families.

Monday, Sept. 28 at Westfield American Legion, Post 327, 7579 Main Road, Westfield, the group is having a chicken barbecue in place of the usual taco buffet. The dinner will consist of half chicken, which is cooked on site, potato salad, baked beans, coleslaw and water or soda. The charge is $15 with a limited number of dinners for sale. Dessert will be available for an additional cost. You may dine in or take it home. For more information on available dinners, call Jeff Greenfield at 716-294-0298.
