Lake Chautauqua Memorial VFW Post 8647 sponsored its annual golf tournament to benefit the Mayville Food Pantry recently.
The tournament began 27 years ago when former post commander Donald Skellie and his wife, Bonnie, organized the first golf event. Skellie passed away several years ago but the event continues to be held each year.
VFW Auxiliary members Doug Johnson and Shannon Larson were co-chairs. Larson was a key volunteer and organizer of the event. The rain held off with 116 golfers playing the Chautauqua Lake Course. Proceeds of $6,500 will be divided between the Mayville Food Pantry and to provide for upgrades to the VFW Pavilion.
Men's first place team tournament winner, with a score of 60, was Nick Wolcott, Bob Lindquist, Tom Brunacini and Joe Sienicki; Mixed team first place winner, with a score of 67, was Shawn McLaughlin, Ann Lynn, Chris Kent and John DeAngelo. Closest to the Pin winners were Drake Bell and Georgia Latimer. The longest drive winners were Austin Anderson and Patricia Dudley.
Nick Wolcott was the only men's skins winner. Four mixed team skins were won by Ed Bradford, Jack Lescynski, Jan Derbish and Beth Sacalowski. The dice game high hand winner was Bob Furman and low hand winner was Tom Brunacini.

Affiliated with St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Mayville's Food Pantry is located at 99 S. Erie St. Those needing assistance who reside in the Chautauqua Lake Central School District are eligible to receive benefits.
There are an increasing number of families using the services offered by the Mayville Food Pantry. Federal poverty guidelines are used to determine eligibility. Nearly 500 households were provided with food this year; many of which incorporate several generations.
Organizers also thanked Jim Thomas, golf club manager, who secured vendor donations, made behind the scenes arrangements and helped in many other ways. Plans are being made to host another golf tournament in 2027.
