Having a say

1 min read

On Saturday, across the United States, citizens concerned about preserving democracy in our country gathered in groups large and small. One of the ways to defend democracy is by exercising the right granted to us by the Constitution via the First Amendment, which protects our freedom to assemble and protest. Approximately 125 people gathered in front of the vacant Rite Aid at Central Avenue and Vineyard Drive holding their signs showing their reasons for, and the importance of, voting. Saturday was a nationally declared "No Kings Day," and the focus was to urge citizens to exercise their right, privilege, and duty to vote. In Chautauqua County, early voting begins this Saturday. Early voting polling places are at the Chautauqua County Fairgrounds in Dunkirk, the Celeron Community Center, the Robert H. Jackson Center in Jamestown, and the Board of Elections office in Mayville. Visit the chautauquacountyny.gov website for details.
