County Legislator Marcus Buchanan, who represents District 1 in the city of Dunkirk, is running for re-election.

He offered this statement: "My commitment to this community didn't start with politics and it won't end with politics.

"I was born and raised right here in Dunkirk. This is my hometown, and for over 30 years, I’ve been working to make a difference in the lives of the people who call it home. Long before I became a County Legislator, I was involved in youth programs, helping families, supporting local businesses, creating opportunities, and giving back to the community that raised me.

"I’ve been a business owner, served on the Dunkirk School Board, and had the privilege of representing District 1 in the Chautauqua County Legislature. I know what it’s like to meet a payroll, pay property taxes, and make tough financial decisions. That’s why I believe taxpayers deserve someone who understands their struggles and is willing to stand up for them. My priorities remain clear: Protect our taxpayers and seniors; bring jobs and economic opportunities to our area; support our working families and local unions; and invest in our youth and the future of our community.

"Make sure your voice is heard in county government. I’m not going to tell you everything is perfect. We have challenges, and there’s still plenty of work to do. But I believe in this community, and I believe in the people who live here. I didn’t get involved in this community because I wanted to be a politician. I got involved because I care about the place I call home."
