Brooks-TLC Hospital System (BTLC) is pleased to welcome Mandeep Sidhu, MD, a physician specializing in pulmonology and critical care medicine, enhancing specialized respiratory (lung) care for patients throughout Chautauqua County.
Dr. Sidhu brings extensive training in pulmonary and critical care medicine, internal medicine and geriatric medicine. Her clinical focus includes diagnosing and treating complex lung conditions, managing acute and chronic respiratory illnesses and caring for critically ill patients who require advanced respiratory support.
Dr. Sidhu completed a fellowship in pulmonary disease and critical care at the University of Illinois Chicago and Jesse Brown VA Hospital. She also completed a fellowship in geriatric medicine at the University of Illinois Chicago and an internal medicine residency at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center at the Permian Basin. She earned her Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree from Guru Gobind Singh Medical College, India.
Dr. Sidhu's hospital-based expertise includes the management of acute and chronic respiratory failure, pneumonia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma exacerbations, sepsis and other critical illnesses. Her experience includes managing patients who require invasive mechanical ventilation or noninvasive respiratory support, as well as evaluating complex pulmonary conditions in collaboration with hospitalists, emergency medicine physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists and other specialists.
In addition to inpatient care, Dr. Sidhu will help patients manage a range of pulmonary conditions through outpatient evaluation and follow-up. She is accepting new patients for pulmonary function tests (PFTs). PFTs are noninvasive tests that measure how well the lungs work, including how much air a person can breathe in and out and how efficiently the lungs transfer oxygen. PFTs help physicians diagnose and monitor conditions such as asthma, COPD, emphysema and other lung diseases.
Dr. Sidhu said her decision to pursue medicine was initially inspired by her father's dream of seeing her become a physician. Throughout her training, that inspiration grew into a commitment to helping patients and families navigate some of their most challenging health experiences.
"Over time, I discovered that medicine was not just about fulfilling a dream, but also about making a meaningful difference in people’s lives," Dr. Sidhu said. "I find it especially rewarding to combine medical knowledge, critical thinking and compassion to help patients through some of their most difficult times. Caring for patients and supporting their families is what makes being a physician so meaningful to me."
Dr. Sidhu was drawn to the Dunkirk community because of the need for specialized pulmonary and critical care services in the region. She sees the opportunity as a way to give back to the community while helping improve access to care for patients with complex respiratory conditions.
"For me, this opportunity is about more than building a career; it is about serving the community, improving access to care and being there for patients when they need it most," Dr. Sidhu said.
Outside of practicing medicine, Dr. Sidhu enjoys spending time with family and friends, exploring new places and experiencing different cultures and cuisines.
Dr. Sidhu's arrival reinforces Brooks-TLC Hospital System's commitment to providing accessible, high-quality healthcare close to home. Patients experiencing persistent or unexplained shortness of breath, chronic cough, wheezing, recurrent respiratory infections, unexplained low oxygen levels or abnormal findings on chest imaging may benefit from a pulmonary evaluation.
"I want my patients to know that I will listen to their concerns, treat them with respect and work with them to develop a treatment plan that fits their individual needs. I believe good medical care involves not only treating a disease but also helping patients understand their condition and feel supported throughout their care," added Dr. Sidhu.
