Warning still in effect; accident near Exit 59 ramp

One of the vehicles is removed from Route 60 and Vineyard Drive.

A winter storm warning remains in effect, but as of this morning the weather was far from frightful. However, there was an accident at the intersection at Vineyard Drive and Route 60 between a sedan and SUV.

According to the New York State Police, a Ford Escape, driven by Dunkirk resident Jeffrey Strauss, attempted a left-hand turn onto the Thruway. Strauss told troopers he misjudged the road due to glare from the road and turned into the path of a Chrysler 300, driven by Fredonia resident Susan Kurgan.

Strauss and Kurgan were both taken to Brooks Memorial Hospital with minor injuries, Capt. Eric Balon of the New York State Police said.

All area schools were open and snow totals were around a dusting across the area.

Forecasters expect 8 to 15 inches of snow today.
