BROCTON — Superheros have taken over the Brocton Central School District.

At Brocton, the PARP (Parents As Reading Partner) program ran from Jan. 20 through Feb. 3. This year’s theme was “Reading is my Superpower!” Students took home activity calendars and reading logs.

There was a coloring contest, Silly Sock Day, Daily Trivia announcements, Minute to Win It games, a principal’s challenge, a door decorating contest and many other fun activities.

At the closing assembly, Elementary Principal Sandra Olson challenged students to a cotton ball relay race and a flip the bottle game. Superintendent Jason Delcamp also joined in on the Face the Cookie Minute to Win It game.

School officials noted that learning to read is the single most important activity in a child’s education. PARP is a collaborative effort among parents, staff and community to build a reading partnership between home and school. PARP programs encourage parents to read with their children for at least fifteen minutes per day. Reading with a child is instrumental in forming good reading habits that will last a lifetime.

This year, PARP was organized by two Brocton teachers, Mrs. Anderson and Miss Tye. Olson would like to thank both teachers for doing such a fabulous job. This year, participating PARP students read close to 27,000 minutes during the two weeks of PARP.
