All Arkwright wind towers are up

ARKWRIGHT — Kellen Ingalls, project manager for EDP Renewables had a long awaited report for the town of Arkwright this past week.

“We’ve got 36 of 36 turbines up, that’s 100 percent,” said Ingalls.

Many on the board and in the room breathed a sigh of relief as that news came down the line. The final step is fixing everything that was tore up in the process of their construction.

“The work now is restoring the roads,” Ingalls continued. “We’re going to be starting in the northwest portion and then making our way south on Center Road. Projects include, shoring up the wetlands, filling in stuff, reseeding, getting things ready to grow back and look pretty again.”

When asked by Town Supervisor Frederic Norton when the turbines would start working, Ingalls filled everyone in on the proposed timetable.

“Right now, the beginning of August, but it’s totally dependent upon National Grid and their schedule. We’ll be ready to go when they are.”

The hold up right now is a bunch of moving pieces and coordinating with the electric company.

“We don’t want to try to connect our switch yard to the grid while it’s live. We have to coordinate an outage with them. They’ve got remote facilities that have to be in a certain condition and ready for us. All we can do is be ready to go when they are. If it’s not the beginning of August it’ll be the second week; we’ll be inching through it,” Ingalls said.

In other news, Supervisor Norton would also like to remind residents that the town picnic has been changed to Saturday, Aug. 25 as the prior location it was held at has been closed and is currently up for sale. It will be held instead at Al and Sandy Forbes’ parcel.

The next town board meeting will be Aug. 13 at 7:30 p.m.
