Area native to star in reality TV show

Thirty-five-year-old Jona Bienko, a 2001 Fredonia High School graduate, is set to appear on “Married at First Sight Honeymoon Island,” which airs on Lifetime Network for the next eight Thursday nights at 10 p.m.

Members of the Fredonia High School Class of 2001 and former patrons of Muldoons on Water Street in Fredonia are about to see a familiar face flash across TV on Tuesday night. Jona Bienko, 35, of Como, Colorado, is looking for love in a brand new reality show, “Married at First Sight: Honeymoon Island,” which airs on Lifetime network for the next eight Tuesday nights, beginning at 10 p.m. tomorrow and moving to its regular 9 p.m. time slot on Oct. 30.

“It’s the first show where the honeymoon comes before the wedding,” said a representative from Kinetic Content, the company producing the show.

Kinetic Content is excited to announce that Bienko is one of 16 contestants in this spin-off of “Married at First Sight” on which Bienko was a finalist during the 2016 Miami season. “Jona is so likable, eager to find love and get married,” said the production company representative. “We first met him on ‘Married at First Sight’ two years ago. We didn’t end up finding a match for him on that show, so we released him back into the wild … but we just loved getting to know him. When it came time for this show, we reached out to Jona, who was single and wanted to do it.”

The original series, “Married at First Sight,” first aired in 2014 and follows six people who agree to participate in an unusual experiment.

Three couples who have never met but been matched on multiple levels by various specialists decide to get married and face the challenges of matrimony head-on while America watches. After several weeks, each couple must decide whether to remain together or go their separate ways. While Bienko was not one of the three couples on the Miami season, he made a great impression on the producers and kept his heart open for love. On “Honeymoon Island,” which was filmed in July, Bienko joins 15 other “Married at First Sight” hopefuls (eight men and eight women in all) on St. Lucia for a second chance at love. Although the Kinetic Content representative could not confirm the success of Bienko’s journey, the OBSERVER was told that “Jona goes very, very far” and that fans will want to tune in for more than just the first episode.
