WINDY: Weather accidents abound in region

At approximately 2:40 p.m. a vehicle traveling west on Route 5 in the town of Dunkirk left the roadway and rolled over into the front yard of 3518 Route 5. East Dunkirk Volunteer Fire Department, New York State Police and Alstar EMS responded to the scene. The driver was transported by ambulance to Brooks Memorial Hospital with reported injuries. Although the exact cause of the accident is under investigation, fire department personnel suspected the high winds may have been a factor.

A three-car motor vehicle accident happened Friday afternoon in the southern driveway of Country Fair on Route 20 in Pomfret. Two injuries were reported.

A refrigerated tractor trailer hauling frozen poultry, suffered a collision with a toll booth in Ripley near the state line. According to Trooper Robert Ritz who was on site, the driver was approaching too quickly and couldn’t brake accordingly, due to slippery conditions, to keep from hitting a vehicle in front of them. The driver reportedly attempted to change lanes as they approached the booth, but didn’t make it. No injuries were reported and no leaks from any chemicals either.

A crossover SUV ended up in the northbound ditch near Hahn Road on Fredonia-Stockton Rd. in Fredonia. No injuries were reported, but extrication was needed.
