Grand jury indicts in Dunkirk stabbing
Ashlyann M. Lopez-Lopez, 26, of Dunkirk pleaded innocent on Monday in Chautauqua County Court on the charge of second-degree manslaughter in the stabbing death of Jefrena Brown.
The incident, which took place on May 15 on the 100-block of Lincoln Avenue was a shock to the community as a whole. Brown, who was stabbed, died the following day at Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo after being Starflighted the night before.
The grand jury indicted Lopez-Lopez on the reduction of charge, after presentation of the known facts, the original charge filed from the Dunkirk Police Department was first-degree manslaughter; bail was also reduced from $500,000 to $150,000 accordingly.
Chautauqua County District Attorney Patrick Swanson commented to the OBSERVER Monday that “further proceedings in the case will take place in early September.”
