Street Rods Harbor Cruise brings a roar to the shore

The annual Lake Shore Street Rods Harbor Cruise brought a roar to the shores of Point Gratiot Park Sunday afternoon with over 700 unique vehicles in attendance, showing off both the power of steel and horsepower alike. The annual classic car show brings in a number of visitors from both Chautauqua County, as well as surrounding areas.

In addition to those showing off their cars, those coming to look were in record number as well, with the event seemingly almost crammed full early on in the day. The gorgeous weather may’ve played a part in that, but it could’ve just as easily been the delicious Porpiglia’s chicken barbecue wafting through the air along the rippling waves.

The event ran from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, but many Mustangs, BMWs and vintage trucks were still parked and surrounded by onlookers well into the sunset.

“Everybody was loving the old style cars on display,” said fourth-of-July weekend visitor Megan Cooper. “My kids would run up and touch the cars, run back giggling, and the owners really didn’t seem to mind.”

The live music scene at the Lake Shore Street Rods Harbor Cruise did not disappoint, as Hooman featuring Melissa Sauers put on a spectacular show. DJ Joe Gould also let the music do the talking and spun around some great tunes in the sunny afternoon sun.

When all was said and done and the tail fins dipped into the trees on their way out, the roar of the motors may be gone for now, but the memories of hot paint jobs, curvaceous chrome and shiny leather seats will surely stick in the minds of those in attendance for miles and miles ahead.
