Trial date set in Dunkirk stabbing death
A tentative trial date of Jan. 7 has been set for Ashlyann M. Lopez-Lopez, 26, of Dunkirk for the alleged stabbing death of 15-year-old Jefrena Brown.
The OBSERVER spoke with Chautauqua County District Attorney Patrick Swanson and was told that a conference with the court was scheduled this week for an omnibus motion. An omnibus motion is a standard practice by the court that takes multiple smaller motions and files them together in a single document.
Lopez-Lopez pleaded innocent to second-degree manslaughter on July 2 in Chautauqua County Court. The grand jury, at that time, indicted Lopez-Lopez on the reduction of a filed first-degree manslaughter charge, after presentation of known facts; bail was also reduced from $500,000 to $150,000 accordingly.
The incident, which took place on May 15 on the 100-block of Lincoln Avenue was a shock to the community as a whole. Brown, who was stabbed, died the following day at Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo after being Starflighted the night before.
