A Pomfret man died Friday afternoon in an apparent tractor accident.

According to State Police, at approximately 4 p.m. Daniel W. Hunt, 50, of 9232 Spoden Road was operating his 1976 International 966 Tractor traveling southbound on Rt. 60. Making a left turn onto his farm access road, the right front tire dropped down off the road on an embankment on the south side and the tractor struck a tree; it then rolled over down the embankment pinning Hunt underneath.

Life saving measures were unable to be performed and Hunt was pronounced deceased at the scene. Emergency crews utilized two excavators to lift the tractor and remove Hunt.

Members of the Fredonia and Cassadaga Fire Departments, along with the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office and New York State Police responded.
