High winds bring damage to region
Wind gusts that neared 70 mph in the region made travel difficult and took a toll on area structures.
According to the National Weather Service, the highest wind gust was 68 mph in Fredonia around 7 p.m. Wednesday. That was around the time emergency crews were called to Brigham Road to investigate a roof collapse.
Other high wind speeds from Wednesday include: Brant, 57 mph at 6:18 p.m.; Fredonia, 56 mph at 6:45; Dunkirk Airport, 55 at 6:05; Ripley, 49 mph at 1:08; and Silver Creek,36 mph at 6:40 p.m.
Winds have diminished since overnight and temperatures will reach 38 degrees today with cloudy skies.
