3 Gowanda juniors head to Boys’ State

Submitted photo

Three juniors at Gowanda High School have been selected as delegates to represent the district at the 2020 American Legion Boys’ State program at the State University of New York College at Morrisville this summer. Congratulations to Rowan Mentley-Peters, Joshua Covert-Freeman and Daniel Marrocco (from left to right).

Boys’ State is a weeklong program that immerses high school youth (currently completing their junior year) in citizenship and leadership training. They learn the practical aspects of government as it exists in New York State, and come to recognize that the individual is integral to the character and success of government. The delegates also participate in physical fitness, teamwork and other activities, under the guidance of American Legion counselors and U.S. Marines.

Boys’ State delegates are sponsored by the American Legion Gowanda Post 409 and the 2020 program will be held June 28-July 3, 2020.
