Fredonia schools eyeing Ecuador, Saratoga Springs

Regarding the coronavirus, “we are business as usual in our district,” Fredonia Central School District Superintendent Jeffrey Sortisio said to the Fredonia Board of Education at its meeting.
Sortisio reminded the board that there are no known reports of the deadly new virus in Chautauqua County. He said he is in daily contact with both state and local health agencies about the progress of the disease across New York.
“I’ve asked our administration team to work with students on good hygiene,” he said, noting the importance of hand-washing and covering mouths during sneezes or coughs. “We’re doing everything we can internally.”
The coronavirus is also leading Sortisio to closely monitor a place he probably never thought he’d have to keep an eye on: Ecuador’s Galapagos Islands. That’s because high school students are scheduled to travel there later this spring.
Closer to home, he is also keeping an eye on conditions in Saratoga Springs. Students associated with the high school newspaper, the Spectator, are scheduled to travel there March 27-28 for an awards ceremony.
Both trips remain on for now, Sortisio said.
