Music on the Pier may move to park

Take note, Music on the Pier fans. If the city of Dunkirk is going to have concerts on Thursday evenings this summer, those events are not likely to take place at the usual location.

Dunkirk Mayor Wilfred Rosas told the OBSERVER this week he is looking at possibly moving Music on the Pier series this year to a larger location to allow for better social distancing. “We’re looking at possibly Memorial Park or Point Gratiot for the rest of Music on the Pier this summer,” Rosas said. “It’s too cramped of a setting and too hard to control social distancing having the concerts at the Pier this year.”

Music on the Pier was canceled through the first two weeks in July, but Rosas recently decided to cancel it for the entire month. If it does come back, it will take place at one of the park locations in August.

In addition to the July concert slate, the Fourth of July festivities, the Lakeshore Hot Rod Car Show, which takes place at Point Gratiot, and the Beach Bash have been canceled due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Last year, while work at the pier was taking place, many of the Music on the Pier events took place in Memorial Park. Dunkirk also recently opened a pavilion and bandstand in Point Gratiot in the fall of 2018.
