Sweltering heat brings families to beach

Sweltering heat pummeled Western New York on Wednesday as families sought solace at the beach.

“Yes I’m enjoying the weather, but we still got to be conscious,” Jody Gustafson said. A health care worker, Gustafson strives to remind people about the importance of social distancing, even when outside.

“It’s wonderful to go out and this weather is awesome,” she said.

The beach was littered in children and happy families enjoying the sun, one little girl toted a bucket of water over to a groove in the sand, her father pouring it in.

“We’re building a river,” R.J. Pinkoski said as the water disappeared in the sand. “And there it goes.”

As his daughter ,Andirae, headed back to the lake to gather more water Pinkoski pointed at his jet ski.

“We brought our jet ski out, it’s a little choppy, but we hope it’ll calm down as the day goes on,” he said. “It’s a nice dynamic, the heat and then if you get a little bit too warm, the water is still quite brisk.”

Stephanie Mosher tanned calmly nearby as her son played nearby. “This weather is great, it’s nice to get out and come down to the beach when it’s this hot out,” Mosher said.

She commented how it’s been hard on her kids to be separated from school. “They do miss their friends, we’re just glad to be able to come out and enjoy the sun.”
