Lakewood man charged for crash that killed 7-year-old

Photos of Emmaline Wilcox were displayed at Saturday's funeral.

A Lakewood man has been charged with second-degree vehicular manslaughter and driving while ability impaired by drugs for a crash that killed a 7-year-old girl in February.

The New York State Police announced the charges Friday to 24-year-old Nicholas P. Mineweaser.

Police have been investigating the Feb. 24 crash on Route 60 in the town of Pomfret that took the life of Emmaline A. Wilcox. In a news release, the state police said Mineweaser was northbound when he struck the back of a 2016 Kia that had stopped to make a left turn into a parking lot.

The Kia was pushed into the southbound lane, where it was struck by a 2016 Volvo tractor-trailer.

The driver of the Kia and Wilcox were taken to Brooks Memorial Hospital. The 7-year-old was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Troopers detected the odor of marijuana on Mineweaser at the scene of the crash; an investigation determined the Lakewood man was intoxicated by drugs.

The Chautauqua County District Attorney’s Office, Collision Reconstruction Unit, Commercial Vehicle enforcement Unit, Fredonia Police Department assisted in this investigation.
