New world doesn’t change Forestville reading ‘Universe’
FORESTVILLE — Even though the COVID-19 pandemic ended in-school sessions back in March, some students at Forestville Elementary School continued reading throughout the rest of the school year and into the summer!
When quarantine closed school in March, Forestville Elementary School families had just started the 38th Annual Parents As Reading Partners Program (PARP) “A Universe of Stories” — an outer space theme for the month-long reading challenge. Families were just completing their second week of reading when things changed. Not knowing when school would resume, families were encouraged to keep it up until school reopened.
When the students didn’t return to complete the school year in class, some families held onto the weekly reading verification slip – just in case!
When the school year officially ended in June, Mrs. Dunn and Mr. Worosz, the Elementary Title I Reading Teachers encouraged the students to read throughout the summer months with an “Imagine Your Own Story” reading challenge.
When school resumed in September, the two teachers were thrilled when some students handed in their PARP verification sheets as well as their Summer Reading Challenge sheets!
Students were awarded with a prize bag of gifts, a book, an award and a reading medal
