Bicycles, ribbons are part of Oktoberfest

School 3 event sends message with prizes

During October, School 3 did displays about breast cancer awareness.

School 3 in Dunkirk ended October in celebration of many events including Red Ribbon Week, Say No to Drugs, Color the school Pink in honor of Breast Awareness month, Hispanic Heritage Month, celebration of 200 participants on our morning announcements and Halloween.

School 3 faculty and staff joined together to wrap all these worthy recognitions into their first annual Oktoberfest. This outdoor, socially distant event was held on Wednesday, Oct. 28, and was set up throughout the School 3 parking lot.

Families were invited to drive through the parking lot and had a chance to pick out pumpkins, which were donated by Yerico Farms, at sno-cones and popcorn and enter a raffle to win a new bike! Thank you to Harvest Chapel for donating three bikes.

Since the closure of school in April, the bikes were unable to be given away last school year. So in the beginning of October, a new reading challenge for the students at School 3 was set in motion. Students were able to earn tickets to win one of the three bikes by attending the morning announcement every morning at 8:20, participating in the weekly reading challenge, and attending the Oktoberfest. The three bike winners were Andrew Greene, Clara Lack and Chrizo Marin.

Some of the displays at Oktoberfest were Hispanic Heritage Month, which was represented by posters featuring historic Hispanic figures that have made an impact on our world. In addition, pink balloons and pink banners were arranged in the lawn which were decorated by our very own kindergarteners from Ms. Perry’s and Ms. McDonald’s class. These banners were dedicated to honoring those battling breast cancer.

Red Ribbon Week is celebrated.

A Red Ribbon exhibit was a station in the festive of activities as a reminder to Say No to Drugs. Red apples and red bracelets were given out.

Despite the rain, School 3 had more than 100 families come to show off their amazing Halloween costumes and participate in all the fun activities!

Thank you to Yerico Farms and Harvest Chapel for the donations. School 3’s first Oktoberfest could not have happened without donations and support.

Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated.
