Gowanda woman accused of repeatedly following police officers
GOWANDA — A Gowanda woman already facing charges for falsely reporting an incident in November was taken into custody this month after allegedly following a patrol car on several occasions.
The Gowanda Police Department announced the arrest of 47-year-old Stacy L. Forthman in a news release over the weekend. The Gowanda woman, according to police, had been following a patrol vehicle throughout the village several times.
“Forthman has been repeatedly warned that this behavior is not acceptable,” the department said. “On Dec. 13, Forthman again repeated her behavior of following the patrol car throughout the village and would stop and wait for patrol during an interaction, then would again follow patrol.”
Forthman was eventually stopped for reportedly having an obstructed license plate. During the stop she allegedly became belligerent and verbally abusive toward the officer.
“She refused numerous instructions to provide her license and registration,” Gowanda police said.
“Forthman refused to exit her vehicle, and when informed that she was under arrest, Forthman physically struggled with patrol and attempted to push the officer.”
She reportedly kicked the separation screen once in the patrol car, and while at the police station kicked the door, striking the officer.
Forthman is facing two counts of second-degree harassment — one for following police and the other for kicking the door into an officer — as well as second-degree obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest. She is also facing a registration plate violation.
In November, Forthman was issued a ticket for falsely reporting an incident. On Sept. 13, she reported to patrol that she had been physically assaulted by a male acquaintance in a common area near East Main Street. After an investigation, including reviewing surveillance video of the area, police determined that the incident never occurred.
Police never arrested the accused subject.
