JAMESTOWN — An investigation remains ongoing after a 43-year-old Jamestown man was shot and killed at his home early Friday.

No motive for the shooting, reported at 38 Peach St., was released by the Jamestown Police Department; however, the incident “appears to be targeted,” Capt. Robert Samuelson said, confirming the shooting was being treated as a homicide.

Officers were alerted to the shooting at 12:06 a.m. Upon arrival, police located a man at the side of the residence.

The victim, later identified in a news release as Angel Ortiz Rodriguez, was rushed to UPMC Chautauqua but was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.

Investigators remained on scene throughout the morning. A search warrant was obtained by mid-morning, allowing police to enter the property.

Around 9:30 a.m., two dogs were removed from the residence with the assistance of the city’s dog control officer.

Chautauqua County District Attorney Jason Schmidt also was at the scene but declined to comment.

The homicide is the first this year in the city of Jamestown.
