After 16 months of providing meals in to-go containers, Friendly Kitchen — operated by Chautauqua County Rural Ministry — will be reopening for onsite meals.

“It’s been a long time since the soup kitchen has been able to provide onsite meals,” said Executive Director Kathleen Peterson.

Beginning June 1, breakfast will be provided from 8:30-9:15 a.m. and lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; to-go meals will still be provided for dinner during the noontime meal.

If a patron doesn’t feel comfortable dining onsite, to-go meals will still be provided. One of the most important part is socialization and human contact with others, Peterson said.

“So many of those served live alone and haven’t been able to interact with others,” Peterson added.

COVID-19 stopped the dine-in program in March 2020. Chautauqua County Rural Ministry is located at 319 Washington Ave. in the city of Dunkirk.

The Friendly Kitchen, as well as the other 14 programs operated by the ministry are once again accepting volunteers. Those interested in volunteering or assisting in any other way are asked to contact CCRM offices at 366-1787. CCRM is a United Way of Northern Chautauqua County Community Partner.
