Flag donated in memory of local veterans

A flag was recently donated to the Northern Chautauqua Catholic School.

Outside the Northern Chautauqua Catholic School is a new American Flag that can be seen flying on the school grounds. This 6-by10-foot flag was raised on Flag Day, in time for Memorial Day celebrations, and where it still remains.

The flag was donated by an anonymous individual and is in recognition of Memorial Day and in honor and memory of Gerald Carroll and Andrew Dziduch. Both men served in World War II, and Dziduch went on to be a combat veteran in the Korean War as well. The two were also close friends who ended up sharing grandchildren.

Following their return home from military service, both of whom had received numerous medals and commendations, the two settled in the Dunkirk-Fredonia area to raise their families.

Carroll and Dziduch both served as members of the community and were both committed to Catholic education in Chautauqua County.

“Gerald and Andrew were outstanding members of the community, wonderful fathers, grandfathers, and great grandfathers,” said NCCS principal Andrew Ludwig. “They were devout in their faith and NCCS is proud to fly this beautiful flag in honor and memory of these fine men.”

Starting at $3.50/week.
