Active COVID cases, those in quarantine increase

Active COVID-19 cases and the number of people in quarantine in Chautauqua County have all increased in the past couple of weeks.

The county Health Department on Wednesday reported 36 active cases of the coronavirus as well as 133 people in quarantine. Both are up from the middle of July, when there were as few as eight active cases and 11 in quarantine.

Confirmed cases have surged across the country due to the delta variant of the coronavirus.

To date in Chautauqua County, there have been 9,370 confirmed cases, 9,176 recoveries and 158 virus-related deaths. The health department recorded 10 new cases Tuesday: Three in Dunkirk, two each in Fredonia, Jamestown and Frewsburg, and one in Falconer.

Only one person with the virus was said to be in the hospital.

According to New York’s vaccine tracker, 64,125 county residents have received at least one dose while 59,252 have completed their vaccination series.

In Cattaraugus County, 34,167 have received at least one shot while 31,535 have completed their series. Meanwhile, the Cattaraugus County Health Department noted five new cases and four people in the hospital; to date there have been 5,813 total cases, 5,646 recoveries and 109 virus deaths.
