Artsapalooza! making stop in Gowanda
GOWANDA — Artsapalooza, a free, outdoor, multi-arts program for families with younger children, will visit Gowanda at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in St. John’s Park, 46 St. John’s St.
The two-hour program brings interactive art-making stations, a chance to explore drums and ukulele, theater games and more, culminating in a giant-puppet performance of Baba Yaga.
In Baba Yaga, a little girl is sent deep into the woods to borrow a needle and thread when she discovers that her aunt is none other than Baba Yaga, a bony-legged witch. A smile reveals her iron teeth and the wicked Baba prepares the boiling pot for an unexpected meal. With the help of a magical mouse, a talking cat and her kindness, the little girl barely escapes but Baba follows quickly behind.
The performance is sponsored by the village of Gowanda, Gowanda Chamber of Commerce and Gowanda Recreation Department. The show will open with children’s art activities, followed by the puppet show at 7:30 p.m.
Artsapalooza! will be touring 12 rural communities across four counties in Western New York. Presented by Springville Center for the Arts, the actors, musicians and visual artists are taking part in a summer residency and internship program for college students.
The Springville Center for the Arts is a multi-arts center with theater, exhibit, concert and workshop programs housed in an 1869 former church at 37 N. Buffalo St., Springville. For more information, visit SpringvilleArts.org and or the center’s Facebook page.
