Cassadaga gears up for Labor Day weekend

Submitted Photo Big Tone performs Sunday in Cassadaga on the Floating Stage.

Cassadaga will be a busy place during the upcoming Labor Day weekend, which begins Saturday with “CassadagaMan.”

This is not for the faint of heart and includes a 1.2-mile swim, a 56-mile bike and 13.1-mile run. It all starts at Cassadaga Beach on Park Avenue at 8 a.m. Register or volunteer at www.coachmarkwilson.com. This event has attracted participants from around the country and has more than 165 entrants. Even if you don’t want to participate, spectators are welcome to join the excitement. There will be live music and food on the beach most of the day.

On Sunday, the Farmers’ Market will take place in Ames Common from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Roberto Fred has a large selection of fresh produce, baked goods, canned goods and honey. At 4:30 there will be a boat parade sponsored by the Cassadaga Lakes Association. Any floating vessel is invited to participate. The theme is “Super Heroes.” There will be prizes.

Participants should meet at the DEC Launch on Dale Drive at 4:15. Viewers can see the parade all along Dale Drive, Lakeview Avenue, some portions of Maple Avenue, however, the best place to see the parade is Cassadaga Beach on Park Avenue. At Cassadaga Beach at 5 p.m. there is a free concert on the floating stage. BIG TONE will entertain the audience on land and on the lake with classic rock, R&B, blues, and anything else that floats their boat that day.

Wilson Endurance Sports is sponsoring this concert. Super Duper Catering will be on shore as well as local author Amanda Vink with action packed book – “Marjorie Hart and the Tree of Life.” Local artist Mark Hawkins will be there with his beautiful sea glass jewelry and paintings. Lifeguards will be on duty for the last time this summer. Parking is limited at the beach, so please park at the nearby church, library or firehall if you are able to make the short walk.

On Monday, there will be a craft and vendor show in Ames Common from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Bubba’s Food Wagon will also be there. This show is sponsored by the Citizens for a Better Cassadaga.

At 11 a.m., there will be a grand parade on Maple Avenue. This “Labor of Love” will include several bands, marching units, fire trucks, and much, much more! This is expected to be the largest parade to hit Cassadaga in many years! Sponsors include the village of Cassadaga, Citizens for a Better Cassadaga, Cassadaga Lakes Association and generous community members.

At noon, the Ducky Derby will take place at the bridge on Maple Avenue. To purchase ducks, call or text 716 410-0673 or go to ShurFine. This is the Cassadaga Lakes Association’s annual fundraiser.

At 1:45, starting at Cassadaga Beach is the Bicycle/Walk Dice Run. Register at 1:15 ($2 kids, $5 adults). Ride or walk around the lake and roll dice at five stations with cash prizes. This event is sponsored by the Citizens for a Better Cassadaga.
