Hanover man indicted on weapons, drug charges

MAYVILLE — A Hanover man reportedly found with a loaded AR-15 rifle during the execution of a search warrant at his home in February has been indicted by a Chautauqua County grand jury.

The indictment for 33-year-old Josue Baez includes charges of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Members of the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team and Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force served a warrant Feb. 12 at Baez’s Henry Street home near Sunset Bay in the town of Hanover. Inside, SWAT members reportedly found Baez with a loaded AR-15 rifle along with narcotics and cash, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office announced in a news release at the time.

At the time of his arrest, Baez was charged with two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, second- and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and second-degree criminally using drug paraphernalia.

The indictment was filed Sept. 30, and Baez was arraigned Oct. 14 where he pleaded not guilty. He was not in Chautauqua County Jail as of Friday.

Meanwhile, a Jamestown man was indicted Sept. 16 on a third-degree burglary charge. Jessie Jones, 47, pleaded not guilty during arraignment Oct. 7 in Chautauqua County Court where Jones pleaded not guilty.

In May, officers with the Jamestown Police Department responded to a Fairmount Avenue residence for an unwanted person. It was learned that Jones unlawfully entered a vacant apartment and allegedly stole items before leaving. A short time later, officers received word of an unwanted person on Monroe Street, which was found to be Jones, who was taken into custody.

According to a court clerk, Jones was released under the supervision of probation.

Also indicted recently was 36-year-old Justin Horton on a charge of assault while confined in a correctional facility. He was arraigned Oct. 14 where he pleaded not guilty. He is not currently in Chautauqua County Jail.
