Absentees turn table on race in Dunkirk
MAYVILLE – The candidate who was leading after election night in the Dunkirk City Council Ward 2 race is no longer in first.
After the counting of absentee ballots by the Chautauqua County Board of Elections Monday, Democrat Martin Bamonto is now the winner, defeating Republican Linda Stolinski by a vote of 1,149 to 1,126. Stolinski held an 18-vote lead after Election Day.
The Dunkirk At-Large Council race didn’t change with Republican David Damico winning with 1,185 votes and Democrat Nick Weiser losing with 1,113 votes.
The election results also didn’t change for the races in Fredonia. For the two village trustee positions, Republican Nicole Siracuse and Democrat Michelle Twichell won with 1,102 votes and 841 votes, respectively, defeating Republican William Weatherlow with 758 votes, Democrat Michael Barris with 603 votes and Working Families Roger Britz Jr. with 323 votes.
For the two village trustee vacancy positions, Republican Jon Espersen and Republican David Bird both won a seat with 1,077 votes and 921 votes, respectively, defeating Democrat Gregory Krauza with 876 votes and Democrat EvaDawn Bashaw with 612 votes.
In Chautauqua County Legislature District 1 race, Republican Kevin Muldowney held on to the victory defeating Democrat Marcus Buchanan 678 to 624.
In Jamestown, Democrat Regina Brackman held on to beat Republican Robert Reedy II by two votes. Brackman held an 11-vote edge following Election Day.
In the town of Carroll, Michael Walker defeated James Mitchener III 521 to 494 for the highway superintendent position.
Complete results for these close races are available at www.votechautauqua.com and are unofficial pending final certification. The Chautauqua County Board of Elections will continue adding other absentee and provisional affidavit ballots for races with wider margins to the totals to complete their final certification, which is expected later this week.
“We thank each and every voter who cast a ballot either by voting early, on Election Day, via absentee or provisional affidavit ballot,” said Luz Torres, Chautauqua County Democratic election commissioner.
“We anticipate certifying final results by Friday,” said Brian Abram Chautauqua County Republican election commissioner.
