Fredonia keeps insurance carrier

Fredonia retained Lawley Insurance for its coverage Monday at a one-year premium of $306,008.59.

The Board of Trustees voted to keep the company, which insured the village in 2021. Lawley is headquartered in Buffalo and has an office in the town of Dunkirk.

The cost of the 2021 insurance premium was not immediately available, as Village Treasurer Erlyssa LeBeau is out of the office this week.

Fredonia officials sought a quote from another insurance agency in an attempt to get a better deal. They invited representatives from Northwoods-Dillenburg Insurance Agency of Dunkirk, along with Lawley, to offer presentations at the board’s Dec. 20 workshop.

Both representatives told them that the condition of the village dam and spillway are a problem for insurers. However, while Lawley was able to find a firm willing to cover the water infrastructure, Northwoods-Dillenburg could not.

Starting at $3.50/week.
