Gifts, music highlight holiday events in Silver Creek

SILVER CREEK – The sounds and sights of the holiday season – plus a sense of normalcy – returned to Silver Creek Central School District in December 2021.

The presence of students and staff on campus, together again, is a great gift. The Black Knight family worked together to facilitate some beloved traditions – concerts, celebrations – that weren’t fully possible during the 2020-2021 academic year. December kicked off with a campus-wide focus on kindness and generosity.

Third-graders combined learning with celebrating via a “Make the Grinch” smile writing activity. Throughout the month, their recognized students’ random acts of kindness with hearts they used to fill up the Grinch’s three hearts. They capped it all off with a party featuring green snacks.

Elementary students shopped at a Santa’s Secret Workshop set up in the library by the Parent Teacher Student Association.

The pop-up store made it easy for the youngest students to pick from a variety of gift options for loved ones while imparting lessons about the spirit of generosity.

Elementary staff got all decked out for a fierce Ugly Sweater Day competition in the days leading up to winter break, with Lisa Anderson taking home the prize for her entry of a holiday tree fashioned out of school supplies.

Members of the Class of 2022 in teacher Kristen Foley’s government class rallied around an area military family in an effort to brighten their holiday season. Via the annual WNY Heroes campaign, they raised money via a pajama day, bought presents, wrapped and delivered gifts to Williamsville. Best of all, these 12th-graders got to experience the joy of giving back to their community.

A major highlight of December was the annual winter concert. Following safety protocols and taking measures to ensure proper distancing, families gathered in the auditorium on December 15 to enjoy the talented middle/high school ensembles. Performers included the 7/8 band, 6th-grade band, 7/8 chorus, 6th-grade chorus, high school choir, high school band, and select choir.

Silver Creek wrapped up the month by enjoying themed dress-up days (Baby It’s Cold Outside, Deck the Halls and Silent Night) with a variety of holiday socks and wintertime pajama fashions spotted in the hallways.
