Gluten free brewing company coming to Westfield

WESTFIELD — A brewing company that makes gluten free beer is coming to Westfield.

During a meeting in December of the Chautauqua Region Economic Development Corporation, board members approved an $89,000 loan that will go to Ghostfish Brewing Company East, LLC.

The company is planning on renovating 5,200 square feet of space inside the Lake Erie Grape Discovery Center, 8305 Route 20 in the town of Westfield. The company will produce gluten free beer for sale and distribution to markets in the eastern United States.

Ghostfish Brewing Company is based in Seattle, Wash. This will be the company’s first East Coast location.

According to Carol Rasmussen, business development manager with the county Industrial Development Agency, the entire cost of the project is around $265,000.

The loan was unanimously approved.

Westfield Supervisor Martha Bills did confirm that the town was involved in the grant application. However, she couldn’t give a timeline of when they plan on starting construction or opening, or how many jobs this could involve.

“I’m hoping after the holidays, we’ll have a better idea on those things,” she said.

Company officials with Ghostfish Brewing said the owner is off for the holidays and was not available for comment.
