James Stoyle zings Natalie Luczkowiak over phone request

Asking for a city-issued phone, Dunkirk Common Councilwoman Natalie Luczkowiak said Friday she has been subjected to harassment.

Fellow council member James Stoyle had some blunt words for her.

“Get over it. You’re a councilperson,” he said.

Luczkowiak’s request for a cell phone was brought up Friday at a meeting of the council’s Finance Committee.

Republicans Stoyle and Nancy Nichols, both multi-term council members, asserted they were never offered city-issued phones. Mayor Wilfred Rosas and committee chair, Marty Bamonto, both Democrats, responded that they were not denied phones and could get them if they wanted. Nichols said they were never told it was an option.

Bamonto said when he first joined the council in 2016, he had a city cell phone for about six weeks, then discontinued it.

“I want mine the same day she gets hers,” Stoyle said, pointing to Luczkowiak.

Rosas said phones for council members will incur no extra cost to the city. “If you want a phone, please let (City Clerk) Edwin (Ramos) know,” he said.

As the discussion wrapped up, Nichols warned Luczkowiak that she will not be able to cut off all avenues of harassment. She said email is one such avenue.

“You’re not going to be a princess doing this,” Nichols said.

Luczkowiak assured everyone that she can take the heat that comes with being a councilperson.
