Empty buildings come down on 3rd, Main

Workers have demolished rundown buildings near Third and Main streets in Dunkirk.

The site was mostly clear Tuesday morning, though a bit of remaining rubble was being loaded into a dump truck.

The buildings were home years ago to a bike shop, a bowling alley and a dry cleaner. All went out of business and the structures sat empty, gradually turning blighted, until the Chautauqua County Land Bank acquired them.

The site is one of several under consideration for a proposed new Amtrak station.

Starting at $3.50/week.
