Area culinary students serve up state honors

Students enrolled in the Culinary Arts program at the Carrier Educational Center who competed in the New York State Culinary Competition are pictured following their second-place finish.

Students enrolled in the Erie 2 Chautauqua-Cattaraugus BOCES Culinary Arts program at the Carrier Educational Center recently competed and placed in a number of competitions at the New York State Restaurant Association ProStart Invitational at Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park.

Students Eryn Gawlak, Ethan Taylor, Austin Taylor, and Neh-ah-lah-nee Keyes of Lake Shore, along with Audrey Kapuczak of North Collins, placed first in the Restaurant Management competition. The students created an original concept for a restaurant and designed the layout down to the exact inch, built a menu, and designed a marketing campaign.

Students Soloman Bayer and Eryn Gawlak of Lake Shore, Tabatha Babcock of Silver Creek, and Blake Schlegel of Eden, placed second in the Culinary Competition. Bayer and Schlegel also competed with Aidan Cary of Eden in the Burger Battle, with Schlegel claiming second place.

The Management Team will head to the National ProStart competition in Washington, from May 6 to 8.
