Going by the book: Honors announced by county school boards
The Chautauqua County School Boards Association held its Annual Meeting and Honors Night at the Williams Center on the State University at Fredonia campus recently.
Raymond J. Fashano, executive director, welcomed the honored students, their families and friends, administrators, staff and school board members from each of the Chautauqua County school districts and the Erie 2 Chautauqua-Cattaraugus BOCES.
Makayla Press, Forestville Honor Student, played a piano piece entitled “Sonetto 104 del Petrarca” during the ceremony. Patrick Longo, New York State School Boards Association member relations manager, extended greetings on behalf of his organization.
Honor students were recognized by Fashano assisted by Sylvester Cleary, association president from Forestville, and Jeanne Oag, first vice president from Cassadaga Valley.
The students gave a brief statement about their accomplishments and future plans.
Each received a certificate and memento from the CCSBA. The Honor Students are:

The Falconer Central School Board of Education was the recipient of the School Board Professional Development Award.
Jeff Chase from Pine Valley Central School was the recipient of the Board Member of the Year Award.
Bill Carlson, retiring Board Member from Cassadaga Valley after more than 30 years of service, received the Friend of Education Award.
Board of Education members leaving service were also recognized.
Bert Lictus, superintendent of Panama Central School and vice president of the Far West Council of School Superintendents, presented scholarship awards to a student from each participating district. The recipients are:
