Arkwright wants county response to Ball Road bridge

ARKWRIGHT — “A bridge over troubled water” is taking on a new meaning in the Town of Arkwright.
The Ball Road bridge near Arkwright Falls has caused residents of Arkwright headaches with visitors searching for the site with no clear access point.
“We’re constantly getting people coming down there searching for Arkwright Falls … asking when that road is going to be open. I say never,” said Town Council member Bruce Gustafson, whose property is near the bridge in question.
Gustafson said the issue has led to people parking on his land and inconveniencing him, with others nearby reporting similar issues, as the visitors search for Arkwright Falls.
The Town Board is asking Chautauqua County, once again, to address the bridge.
“I’ve contacted the county and I get no response,” said town Supervisor Brian McAvoy regarding the bridge.
“The county has a long list, I get that,” added McAvoy. “But you have big bridge projects. Ours is a little project. Just look at it and see when you can fit it in between the big projects. I can’t believe it would take them that long to fix that bridge.”
According to multiple town officials at the meeting, the county is responsible for maintaining the bridge. “If the county would come up with a plan for the bridge, we’ll jump through hoops to do whatever we have to do to support it,” said McAvoy.
