Pictured from left are Army, Navy & Air Force Veterans in Canada-United States Unit members at the Induction Ceremony: John Miga, Past 8th District of New York Commander; Robert L. Morrill, Past Department of New York Commander; and Dave Riley, Sr., current Department of New York Commander.

John R. Miga was recently inducted with Honorary Life Membership into the Army, Navy & Air Force Veterans in Canada-United States Unit, (ANAVICUS) at the 103rd American Legion National Convention in Milwaukee, Wis.

Army, Navy & Air Force Veterans in Canada-United States Unit membership is extended by invitation only, to Legionnaires that have proven an exceptional dedication to the goals and ideals of The American Legion. This organization is so exclusive that less than 100 New York Legionnaires currently belong. This prestigious organization also provides scholarships to numerous deserving students awarded to those in financial need, those who have leadership potential, ROTC students, and direct descendants of ANAVICUS members to pursue their dreams in their chosen area of study.

Miga is a 30-year member of Dunkirk Memorial Post 62 and has held many positions at the local level as Post Commander, Vice Commander, Adjutant, Treasurer, as well as Chautauqua County Commander and 8th District Commander.

He has served on various committees at the local, county, and district levels.

He currently continues to serve the American Legion with the same high standards as 7th and 8th District Membership Chairman, Department of NY Americanism Chairman as well as a member on the National Americanism Council.
