SILVER CREEK — These last few years have been hard on students and staff in schools across the country. The Silver Creek Central School District is attempting to deal with those struggles as best it can.

Michelle Helmer, Silver Creek Director of Curriculum and Instruction, shared the district’s Professional Learning Plan with the Silver Creek Board of Education at the most recent meeting. Three goals of the Board of Education were highlighted in the plan, including academic achievement, character/social emotional well-being, and family engagement.

The district is also focusing on “fostering character and improving overall social emotional health” by working with trauma specialists and student/staff mental health experts, as well as undergoing behavior management training. The district is also increasing its focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Also shared at the recent Board of Education meeting, Silver Creek’s capital outlay bid process begins in early October. “We’re excited to see how that turns out for us,” said Silver Creek Superintendent Todd Crandall.
