Brocton looks to clarify parking ordinance

BROCTON — The Village of Brocton has considered the concerns of members of the community as it relates to enforcement of its parking ordinance during the winter.

Overnight parking is still prohibited with vehicles in violation set to be towed, within the village’s legal right to do so because of the current town law filed at the state level. But due to concerns with the law not being as clear and concise as they wish, the Village Board is exploring the possibility of updating or re-writing the law.

If the law is set to undergo substantial changes, a public hearing will be called for members of the community to offer their input on the matter. It is unclear as of now if or when that will take place.

“Our ordinance could be a lot better. … It’s inconsistent,” said Village Attorney Peter Clark. “A lot of times, for some reason, things get done quickly. … I’d like everybody to look at it. I don’t want to rush it.”

The law currently states from today through the month of March, no overnight parking will be permitted in the village. To make sure the residents of the village are aware of the law, the Village Board is exploring the purchase of multiple signs to post around the village.

Also recently, the Village of Brocton’s inaugural Arch Festival on Oct. 15 at Ryckman Park was a success, according to multiple village officials. Because of the success, the village plans to hold the event again next year.

“The Arch Festival was a pretty good hit,” said Mayor Craig Miller. “Lots of vendors said they will return next year. … It was pretty good for our first time.”

Even poor weather conditions did not stop people from attending. “The weather wasn’t nice, but people still came and stayed,” said Trustee Bryan Woleben.

Starting at $3.50/week.
