Dunkirk School 7 holds costume parade

DUNKIRK — Shortly after 1:30 Monday afternoon, students at Dunkirk School No. 7 went on a costume parade around the school building to celebrate Halloween.

Despite rain drops lightly falling from the dark grey sky, nothing stopped the students displaying their holiday spirit for the crowd gathered all along the sidewalks surrounding the school.

“It’s a fun event. It’s nice to have the families involved with the school,” said Danielle Russell, Principal of School 7.

Teachers had been promoting the parade on social media for over a week prior to the event. The parade is a tradition at School 7, which sometimes is held in the school gym if weather does not permit an outdoor parade.

Teachers and aides led the students out the door near the bus loop on Serval Street, wrapping around the school on the sidewalk before re-entering the school on the other side. Some students, including kindergartners, took a second lap around the school.

“It’s so nice to see the kids react to seeing their families there in that setting at a time of the day they don’t usually expect them,” said Russell. “I thought it was a great turnout. After Covid the last few years it’s just nice to be able to have families involved again.”

From the smiling faces and proud waves from the students involved, it was clear to see something as simple as a lap around the school went a long way toward giving the kids a Halloween to remember.

Starting at $3.50/week.
