WESTFIELD — With an audience of community members and students from surrounding schools in attendance for Urban Rural Day, the Westfield-Mayville Rotary Club first shared some of its own accolades.

Dan Smith, President-elect of the Westfield-Mayville Rotary Club, proudly displayed a pair of awards to the audience, given to the Westfield-Mayville Rotary Club.

Smith, who is also the Rural-Urban Committee Chair of the Westfield-Mayville Rotary Club, was presented the awards at the first post-pandemic Rural-Urban Day event earlier this month at the Lakeshore Assembly of God in Westfield.

The first of the two awards received was a 2021-22 Rotary Citation to recognize the work done in the community by the Rotary Club.

Next, Michele Starwalt-Woods presented Smith with the Lighthouse Award, which was given to only 15 of the 65 rotary clubs in the area. The award signifies the club went “above and beyond” in its service.

Starwalt-Woods was happy to present the award with so many students from local schools in attendance. “It is so wonderful to see all of the high school students here today. You are our future,” she said. “Whether you become a Rotarian or you become involved in some field of service, you are who is going to carry that torch forward.”
