City man in jail facing seven charges
What the Dunkirk Police Department is calling “a vicious, violent’ crime unfolded Tuesday afternoon on King Street in the city.
It was there, according to police, that city resident Edwin Alicea, 36, lured a male victim from his apartment, then forced him back inside. Alicea threatened the man with a firearm, bound and gagged him, and assaulted him. The victim’s cell phone and video gaming system were stolen and flat screen television smashed.
“This was a vicious, violent crime where the defendant knew his victim and a matter of vengeance was taken out on an unsuspecting victim. All the officers involved did a great job in bringing this case to a conclusion so quickly,” said Dunkirk Police Capt. Kenneth A. Kaus.
Alicea is charged with first-degree burglary, first-degree robbery, first-degree criminal use of a firearm, first-degree unlawful imprisonment, second-degree assault, criminal possession of a weapon and fourth-degree criminal mischief.
The victim managed to free himself and sought assistance at a relative’s home where police, fire and rescue were contacted. The victim was transported to Brooks Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries to his head, face, arms and legs.
Alicea was arrested Wednesday at about 4:15 p.m., with the assistance of the New York State Police Violent Crimes Task Force. He was bought back to Dunkirk on warrants signed by Acting City Court Judge John Kuzdale.
Alicea was remanded to the Chautauqua County Jail with bail set at $50,000 cash or $100,000 property bond.
The local officers handling the investigation were Captain Kaus, Lt. Mark Timmerman, Lt. Mark Polowy, Sgt. Robert Mazurek, Officer Kris Sosinski, Inv. Mark Mathews, Officer Denise Zentz and Inv. Carlos Troche.
