Pomfret Town Board reorganizes for new year

The Pomfret Town Board met on Monday for its first official meeting of 2015, with business pertaining to town organization.

Almost all appointments and policies from 2014 have carried over to this year.

For elected officials’ salaries, Supervisor Donald Steger will continue to make $9,000 per year, with the four councilpersons still at $4,500 each. The two town justices will still earn $14,915 each and Town Clerk Allison Dispense’s salary will bump up about $1,000 to $35,888. Highway Superintendent Daniel Bigelow will earn about $2,500 more than last year with his salary of $57,782. Councilman Scott Johnston will earn the same additional $600 as deputy supervisor.

In terms of appointed officials and salaries, Kevin Muldowney will continue on as assessor at the same $35,373 salary. Warren Kelly is continuing on as code/inspection officer ($9,641 salary) and fire inspector ($2,719 salary), while James DeJoe will still be zoning officer ($7,114 salary). Jeffrey Passafaro will continue to serve as town counsel at $120 per hour normally.

Tom Battaglia and Todd Langworthy will continue on as recreation administrator ($2,400 salary) and town historian ($1,200 salary), respectively. Daniel Smith will still earn $6,600 per year as dog control officer.

EvaDawn Bashaw will continue on as deputy town clerk, secretary for the zoning and planning boards (all at $12.06 per hour) and tax collector ($5,200 salary), while Charles White, a highway department laborer, will continue as deputy highway superintendent receiving the same additional 50 cents in his hourly rate.

The highway department will continue with six workers other than Bigelow and White, while the assessor’s office will maintain one clerk, the town court will still have two clerks and two officers and there will still be two cemetery sextons, one for Forest Hill Cemetery and one for the rest of Pomfret’s cemeteries.

The town board will continue to regularly meet on the second Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the town hall. All town board members will continue to serve in the same exact committees as last year.

Regarding specialized town boards, Michaelene Comerford, Bonita Saletta, Kirk Hutchinson and Roger Renswick will serve on the board of assessment review, with one vacancy; Janet Szymanski, Daniel Pacos, James Joy and Robert Smith will be on the planning board, with one vacancy and Joy as chairman; and Ruth Eckstrom, Samuel Allesi, Nancy Jankowski, David Fridmann and Ray Lewandowski will make up the zoning board of appeals, with one vacancy and Allesi as chairman.

Bahgat & Laurito-Bahgat will provide bookkeeping services to the town at $15,000 per year, as well as insurance administration services at $2,000 per year.

The mileage reimbursement rate will continue to be 55 cents per mile.
