Two charged after early morning pursuit

A pursuit from that began on Route 438 and Richardson Road on the Seneca Nations of Indians territory came to an end in the town of Hamburg this morning, leading to the arrest of a Gowanda man and Angola woman.

Erie County Sheriff Timothy Howard reported a deputy attempted to make a traffic stop around midnight. When he turned on the vehicle’s emergency lights, the operator, Michael Penvose, failed to stop. The pursuit traversed through Cattaraugus County then back into Erie County along Southwestern Boulevard.

Penvose led deputies through multiple municipalities and ended after Evans police deployed stop sticks, and the vehicle came to a rest at Southwestern Boulevard and Pleasant in the town of Hamburg.

The deputies’ investigation discovered a felony amount of meth in Penvose’s possession and arrested him for criminal possession of methamphetamine. Deputies further discovered the defendant’s license has 11 active suspensions and he was arrested and charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle.

Deputies added resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration, reckless driving, unlawful fleeing a police officer in a vehicle, and criminal possession of a controlled substance, as well as multiple vehicle and traffic violations.

It also was discovered Penvose is on New York State parole for drug charges and he was subsequently arrested on a parole violation.

Erie County Sheriff’s Office thanks officers from the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office, Evans Police Department, Hamburg Police Department, Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department, and the New York State Police who assisted with the pursuit.
